Good News!

“It’s not a too-mah.”  You knew I had my heart set on writing that, didn’t you!  Ray’s histopathology results came back great in that the growth turned out to be nothing more than a skin tag, which is really what I figured it would be.
Happy Dance!
The downside?  I feel like even though it is great news, it was almost …well, not bad news but I feel like I put Ray through this whole ordeal for nothing.  An unnecessary surgery in which extra tissue was removed, “just to be on the safe side” and though he hasn’t been too out of sorts about it, he did bust his stitches open a bit.
I know if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t hesitate to do the same thing, but now my worry is that if he gets another one, I might not have it removed as quickly.  What if I decide the next one is just a skin tag as well and it turns out differently?  What if it is?  What if I subject him to another surgery for no reason?
For this being good news it still feels like a no win situation.  Do you see the dilemma?  What would you do?

  1. I'm so glad it's not a too-mah Ray!!! I would have probably done the exact same thing as your mom because I'm just a big worry wart! I swear every week I come up with something that we “possibly” could take Athena to the vet for (like last night I woke up in the middle of the night and insisted that Athena has an ear infection….now that I'm not so groggy I think I would disagree with myself!).

  2. The mom here – I'm a big worrier too. I know with people anyway, since I know it has happened, sometimes what is thought to be a simple skin tag – the report says it has symptoms of pre-cancerous cells. Now I don't know if the same has happened in dogs and if if it does then the report would say that.

Yep, we hate to have our dogs go through needless surgery HOWEVER until there is a different method found to diagnose cancer – I'd rather the needless surgery than the alternative of a cancer diagnosis not made until it is too late.

As for Ray – I am so glad too hear your grreat news.
    Kim
